Koloa Sunshine market

Monday December 28 we ventured south from Lihue and managed to make it to the Koloa Sunshine market shortly after its noon opening. This market is held in the parking lot for a baseball field. Lots of local fruit, veggies, and flowers for sale.

A couple vendors were selling rambutans! We got these on our previous Hawaii trip and were specifically hoping to find them again. These are pretty scary looking with all the spikes however the spikes are soft and pliable and couldn't possibly do any bodily harm.

They also had a lot of fresh coconuts. This guy would hack away at the coconuts with a machete until he opened up a small hole and then stick in a straw so you could drink the milk!

Here is happy Ben with coconut, a bag full of rambutans, and a small cluster of so called apple bananas. These bananas are smaller than the regular ones we get here on the mainland and supposedly they stay in peak ripeness for a longer amount of time.

Fresh coconut. Slurp slurp.

After you finish off all the coconut milk, the machete guy will slice all the outer husk off and then crack it in half so you can eat the meat.
